How to install IPTV on LG and Samsung Smart TVs

By Mi TV Latino Team · Updated on

If your TV is an LG with webOS or a Samsung with Tizen, you can watch Mi TV Latino without buying anything else: you install an app from the TV own store and that is it. The catch is that the app catalogue on these TVs changes by country and by model year, so here are both routes — the easy one and the fallback — plus what to do if yours turns awkward.

Before you start

  • Your login details: username, password and server URL, or your M3U playlist. All of it is in your client area.
  • The TV connected to the internet, over WiFi or, better, by cable.
  • If your TV is more than six or seven years old, skip to the end: there is an alternative that will save you an afternoon.

LG (webOS)

  1. Open the LG Content Store from the home screen.
  2. Search for an IPTV player. The ones usually available are IPTV Smarters Pro, Smart IPTV and Set IPTV. Not all of them show in every country.
  3. Install it and open it.
  4. If the player supports Xtream Codes API, log in with username, password and server URL. If it only takes a playlist, enter the M3U URL.

A note on Smart IPTV: it is one of the most stable on LG, but it asks for a one-off paid licence tied to your TV MAC address, activated on its own website by entering that MAC. It is not our subscription and we do not charge it — it belongs to the app.

Samsung (Tizen)

  1. Open Smart Hub (the home button on the remote) and go to Apps.
  2. Search for the player with the magnifying glass. On Samsung you will usually find IPTV Smarters Pro, Smart IPTV and SS IPTV.
  3. Install it, open it and load your details the same way as on LG: through Xtream Codes API if the app allows it, or by M3U URL if not.

On many Samsung models the TV MAC address is under Settings → Support → About this TV. You will need it if you pick an app that activates by MAC.

If your app is not in the store

This is common on TVs from a few years back, and no software fixes it: the LG and Samsung stores stop shipping new apps to older models. You have two ways out:

  • A Fire TV Stick or an Android TV Box. They cost little, plug into HDMI and give you the good app, up to date and with every setting. It is what we recommend to almost anyone who arrives with a TV over five years old: how to install it on a Fire TV Stick.
  • Screen mirroring from your phone. Fine as a stopgap, but the quality depends on your WiFi and it is awkward day to day.

Settings that stop buffering

  • Cable before WiFi. A Smart TV usually has a weaker WiFi antenna than a phone. If you can run a network cable to the TV, it is the biggest and cheapest improvement available.
  • If it has to be WiFi, use 5 GHz. Faster and less congested than 2.4 GHz, as long as the TV is reasonably close to the router.
  • Close the other apps. These TVs have little memory and the player is the first thing to feel it.

If something fails

The app will not accept my details. Check the server URL is complete and includes its port, with no trailing space. If you copied it from WhatsApp, type it by hand: an invisible character slips in easily.

It loads the list but channels just spin. Try changing the playback format in the app settings. If one channel fails and the rest are fine, it is that channel.

It cuts out every few minutes. It is the connection, almost always. There is a dedicated guide: what to do if IPTV keeps buffering.

The app disappeared after a TV update. It happens. Search the store again and, if it is gone for good, that is the sign this TV would be happier with a Fire Stick.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work on Android TV sets (Sony, TCL, Philips)? Yes, and it is usually easier: those use the Play Store, so you install the player as you would on a phone.

Can I have the account on the TV and the phone at once? Yes, within your plan screen limit: three at once on the standard plan, and there are four-screen plans.

Do I need a set-top box or an antenna? No. Only internet and the TV.

Will the app still work a year from now? The account will. The app depends on your TV store, and on older models neither we nor you control that — which is why an external device is the safe long-term bet.

Where will you be watching from? See which channels you get in Peru, in the United States or across Latin America.

Cannot find the app on your TV? Message us on WhatsApp with the brand and model and we will tell you what to do. No account yet? See the plans.
